A delicious way to shake away those mid-morning or late afternoon blues, this banana and malted chocolate shake is so easy to make.

Hey, there! I am so excited about todays’s post. Three reasons. 1). I am back in the blogging action after a long (really looong) vacation. 2). I have a super simple, killer recipe to share with you guys. You know how much I love those kind of recipes, don’t you? 3). And most importantly, I have something amazing lined up just for you, my lovelies. As a sort of ‘thank you’ for sticking with me and ‘ze blog all this while. You get a chance to win a little something for yourself today. (Scroll down to find out how to enter the giveaway).
The nice people over at Wolf Gourmet contacted me a while ago about reviewing their High Performance Blender. They were super sweet and patient about me being on vacation and all that. I was eagerly awaiting this new kitchen toy from their line of household appliances because I have worked with them before and truly love their products. I use their pans every single day.
So it was no surprise that the blender looked equally impressive, sturdy and absolutely sexy!
Apart from being sleek and modern in looks, the blender has a 2.4 peak HP motor, ultra-responsive variable speed, intuitive LCD control panel, 4 program settings, quiet blending, and a large 64 oz. Tritan™ jar among other things.
I’ve been using the blender for a few days now and am very impressed. It is powerful, the preset timed settings are helpful in keeping your hands free and it is indeed a “quiet” blender for its power and size. Trust me on this, as I have gone through many of them! I made smoothies, hot soups (yes, in the blender), curry pastes and crushed ice to my heart’s content.
This blender makes light work of crushing ice and frozen fruit for smoothies and shakes. The large capacity jar means that I can make a large batch in one go. The Happy & Harried household goes through a lot of cold beverages in the summer, so this is a big deal for us!
On that note, I have a delicious banana and chocolate milkshake recipe for you. While I was in college, I was introduced to the something called a Sharjah Shake. I have no idea if it did originate in Sharjah or whether the name was simply a way to lure people into trying it.
However it got its name, this is an easy and delicious milkshake to keep you filled during those in-between times. You know them, the time between brekkie and lunch or the time between lunch and dinner. When you need something light and refreshing to keep you going, try this one.
Now, this is a simple banana milkshake, but what makes it amazing is the use of malted chocolate drink powder. I am not naming any brands, but you know them. The addition of your favorite chocolate health drink powder is what sets this milkshake apart in terms of flavor and goodness. Another thing that sets this milkshake apart is the use of frozen milk for a thick and luscious texture.
- Bananas - 2, large and very ripe
- Cashew nuts - ¼ cup
- Milk - 2 cups (preferably frozen in ice cube trays)
- Malted chocolate drink powder - 2 tbsp
- Coffee powder - ½ tsp
- Whipped cream and chocolate sauce - to serve, optional
- Blend bananas, nuts, frozen milk cubes, chocolate powder and coffee powder till smooth.
- Pour into tall glasses. Top with whipped cream and chocolate sauce, if desired. Serve immediately.
Pour into glasses and drink up!!
If you’ve been paying attention, you will remember that I mentioned making hot soups right in the blender. That is such a game changer. I tried a quick red pepper soup with red peppers, onions, cilantro and garlic. I fully expected to be hit with a raw onion and garlic taste, but was pleasantly surprised. It was completely cooked – right in the blender!
Another shortcut that I found, was to run the soup setting for half the time to make roasted vegetable dips and chutneys. This way, the vegetables are cooked but not made boiling hot like soups.
All in all, I love the blender and its features especially, the different program settings, size and ease of operation. I also noticed that the jar does not taper down much like conventional blender jars, which helps in even blending. There is also a tamper tool provided for you to stir thick or frozen mixtures while blending. You can also measure and add ingredients while blending using the emulsion cup. The size is also perfect for you to proudly display this beauty out on the countertop all the time.
And now, you can win this beautiful blender for yourself. This blender is valued at $599.95 and can also be found at Williams Sonoma.

I’ve never owned a blender [sad as it is], but I just never have made mint chutney at home. My mother-in-law always toots at the idea of having no chutney at home (hawww! north indian lady with no blender?? – she often screams at me).
So I would inaugurate this blender with a mint-corriander chutney that we can eat everyday. Then ofcourse, I am a huge smoothie fan! so ofcourse, that’s always something I would love to have the convenience of in my own home. 🙂

Good luck winning your first blender. There’s an amazing chutney recipe on the blog too, if you want to take a look 🙂
