Wait a minute. Are you wondering what a Christmas decor post is doing on a food blog? Well as some of you may remember, ‘At The Corner Of Happy And Harried’ didn’t exactly start out as a food blog. I have a few tricks up my sleeve when it comes to decking the halls as well. Granted, they have taken a back-seat lately with all the cooking, shooting and blogging about food. (I didn’t know it can be so time-consuming.) But I had to share some Christmas cheer with y’all before it was too late.
Go here to take a look at what I did last year. I went a bit rustic decorating the tree with handmade book page ornaments and garlands. This year, it’s all about the sparkle. Our tree has a gold and silver theme.
Simple, classy gold and silver ornament balls, snowflakes and icicles are all I used.
I have colorful vignettes scattered throughout the house. Anywhere you look, there is a bit of Christmas cheer at our house. I love it! My favorite this year is not our traditional Christmas tree, but this little Charlie Brown twig tree that my Boy put up. He went through a huge Charlie Brown phase a while ago and used to go around saying cutesy stuff like “Sh-arlie Brown” and “Sweet Baboo“.
So, when he found a huge branch on one of our walks, he lugged it home and made me secure it in a pot. This tree is all him. And yes, he seems to be a bit OCD-inclined like mommy when it comes to arranging things. Look how the ornaments are evenly distributed.
And our darling silver hippo found a place to hang on!
I love decorating with twigs and branches any time of the year. It’s cheap inexpensive, natural and doesn’t take up storage space. Win-win-win!
Here is another little vignette I put together to brighten up our table. I have a vase full of painted twigs with a few sentimental ornaments on them, sparkly disco ball ornaments in a bowl (high-five for the Target $ spot) and a sweet little angel.
I love my sweet nativity ornament. It was one of the first Christmas decor item I bought in the US. Boy was a wee baby then and you can still find his teeth marks on it from when he gnawed it!
Do you love random things like I do?
This is how the vignette currently looks on our side table. The hanging star near the stable ornament is to signify the star that appeared at His birth.
A sweet tradition every year is Boy’s Christmas village display. He has collected more village pieces than can be displayed on the tray this year.
This little guy is making snow angels.
A boy’s gotta have a fire station, right?
We also made snow globes like this one with a dinosaur and cow resting peacefully in the snow. Isn’t that cute? He put his precious cars inside a couple of snow globes, but then decided they were best used for playing.
I love this time of year. How can you not?!!
By the way, I have one more Christmas treat coming up. Psst… it’s delicious, healthy and a cookie recipe! I am hoping I edit the pictures and get the post out in time. Then I’ll be taking a few days off to hang out and chill with the boys and see you in the new year.

This post is just beyond sweet! I think my favorite is the little wooden ornament with the manger scene inside!

Aww… thank you, Sue! That little nativity ornament is my favorite as well 🙂

my husband loves it too because when he was growing up they actually put up a little manger scene in his front yard! That would not fly too well these days where we live, we are in the midst of litigation (the city of Santa Monica, that is) regarding returning the nativity scenes that have been a part of our city’s history for ages to the public space it’s always occupied but recently was banned from due to establishment of religion/1st Amendment issues. Why can’t we all get along? 🙂
