I found this cute, but boring jewelry box at a thrift store. It was in pretty good condition, except for a little dent in one corner. The insides were in good shape too.
It sat on my dresser for a long time. And since I am on a “paint-anything-that-does-not-move” spree, I thought I could easily update it’s look and freshen it up a bit.
I removed the hinges and other hardware, lightly sanded the wood and painted it with Valspar Sonora Rose. It is a pretty coral-pink color.
I let it dry completely, attached the hardware back, and here it is! All dolled up and pretty, don’t you think?!
I didn’t paint all the way inside the bottom drawer so it wouldn’t get stuck. Or will it still glide smoothly? I am not sure.
I also left the little drawer pulls in their original state. I love how it contrasts with the pink shade.

Theres that Pretty color again! Looks really cute!! Thanks for sharing this too!
Thanks Shelly. It is such a cheerful color, right?!!
I’ve planning a similar remake of a jewelry box. A few questions….did you sand or prime first? What kind of brush did you use to get such a smooth finish? And, what did you do to protect the fabric inside the box while you painted?
Hi Heather,
First I removed all screws and handles. I lightly sanded the wood and wiped it thoroughly. Then I painted with a nylon 2-in brush. I used a small craft paint brush on the edges and just prayed it didn’t get on the fabric! Just be slow and careful there.
And oh, I did 3 thin coats and let the paint dry full between coats. The area around the mirror was tricky. I got some on it, but was able to scrape stray paint away with my fingernails.
Love your little jewelry box. It looks so much better painted. Smiles, Beverly
Thank you! A little paint can do wonders, right?!!
